Choose your transport by arrival time
Best for visitors arriving before the final service, with manageable luggage and a hotel near a useful station.
Best after public transport closes, in rain, with jet lag, or when the metro requires awkward changes.
Worth considering for a very late first arrival, large groups or travellers who want a fixed pickup plan.

Chengdu has two airports: read the three-letter code first
TFU (Tianfu) and CTU (Shuangliu) are different airports. In the published allocation notice, international passenger flights moved to TFU, but several airlines operate across both airports and domestic assignments can change. “Chengdu” on an itinerary is never enough: check the airport code shown beside each individual flight before leaving the hotel.
If you genuinely need to change airports, treat it as a transfer between two separate trips. The airport’s interconnection guide lists Metro Line 19, an airport bus, taxi and ride-hailing as possible ground options; it also describes special handling for qualifying under-24-hour domestic transfers. That does not remove the need to meet your airline’s check-in and baggage rules, so a short self-transfer is a poor gamble.
For an arriving international visitor whose next stop is central Chengdu, solve the first hotel transfer before considering any sightseeing. The airport is well outside the centre; a road ride is often the cleaner decision after a delayed flight or with multiple bags.

Confirm the airport code
Chengdu has two airports. The published allocation notice moved international passenger flights to Tianfu, while several airlines operate across both airports. Check TFU or CTU on every ticket before travelling to the airport.

The airport’s published interconnection guide lists Metro Line 19, Airport Express Line 5, taxis and ride-hailing for the CTU–TFU journey. Its extra transfer services are conditional and the guide is not a promise of through-checked baggage; confirm your airline and the live transport window.

Do not rely on a metro connection after a delayed late flight. Save your hotel address, use a licensed taxi rank or DiDi pickup zone, and keep the airport service hotline (+86 28 85205555) available for live assistance.
