CAN: decide whether Guangzhou is your destination or merely your first stop
Baiyun is a large gateway with terminal-specific operations, so save the terminal from your boarding pass as well as the hotel address. The airport’s live transport guide is more useful than a copied timetable: check the terminal, the last public-transport option and the actual bus destination shortly before travel.
For a hotel in Tianhe or Yuexiu, public transport may be sensible in the daytime if the final station transfer is simple. If the flight is late, you are travelling with several bags, or the hotel is in an awkward district, use a licensed taxi, DiDi or fixed transfer. A low headline fare is not a win if it leaves you stranded at the wrong end of a night bus route.
If Guangzhou is only the first airport in a wider South China itinerary, protect the first night. Do not schedule a tight same-evening move to another city or a cross-border connection after an international arrival unless the onward service is confirmed and the delay risk is acceptable.
