Choose PEK when you are staying in northeast or east-central Beijing, or when its flight works materially better. Choose PKX when your hotel is central-south or south Beijing, its flight is better, or its airport-express connection matches your plan. What changes the decision
Capital Airport · PEK
PEK remains a larger international gateway in Beijing’s northern outskirts. Its Airport Express is a fixed-fare line; city subway transfers then depend on your hotel. It is often the easier geographical fit for Dongzhimen, Sanlitun and northeast Beijing.

PKX is south of the city and has an airport express connection to Caoqiao. Daxing also operates airport buses and road options. Its suitability improves when your hotel or next stop is in the south or when its flight schedule is clearly better.

PEK and PKX are separate airports on opposite sides of Beijing. Build the connection around the ticket and baggage rules first; immigration, baggage collection, terminal exits and the second airport’s check-in and security are all additional time.
For eligible international and regional arrivals, PKX currently publishes a voucher-based airport-bus route to PEK, running as part of a campaign through 31 October 2026. You must register at the Beijing Service counter, collect the voucher, and confirm the departure at the first-floor counter near Gate 20. It is a useful fallback, not a connection guarantee—allow a generous buffer or stay overnight if the itinerary is tight.
Late arrivals: treat this as a separate choice
Rail timings should not be the deciding factor for a flight that arrives close to the final service. Beijing adjusts airport-bus operations periodically, and Daxing has offered specific international-arrival bus arrangements in 2026. Check the operator’s live details on the day you travel; then keep a licensed taxi, DiDi or pre-booked transfer as your fallback.
